'She's ATTACKING our democracy' Fuming euro MP blasts Merkel over money power grab from EU

A FURIOUS euro MP today savaged Angela Merkel as she prepared to lead a plot to take back control of Europe’s purse strings from Brussels.

German MEP Sven Giegold laid into his own country’s leader over the plans, set to be discussed during a crisis summit in France, which would limit eurocrats’ future spending power.

The green politician accused the under-fire Chancellor of “a strike against European democracy” as she prepared to spearhead the charge during a behind closed doors meeting in France.

Mrs Merkel will be joined by Francois Hollande and the leaders of Italy and Spain this evening for a mini crisis on the future of the EU to be held at the former royal palace of Versailles.

At the top of her agenda will be a proposal to wrestle back control from Brussels of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which dispenses bailout cash across the eurozone.

She wants to change the system into a full-blown European Monetary Fund, run exclusively by the member states, which would have the firepower to prevent another Greek debt crisis.

I'm confused here.  It's always been my understanding that a democracy was a leadership elected by the people.  Since the European Parliament isn't elected by the people, how is it a democracy?

If the politicians treat people this poorly when they're armed to the teeth,

just imagine what they'll be willing to do once they've disarmed everyone.

The MEPs are elected - it's the commission and the presidents and so on (the people who actually make all the decisions) that get selected. I would venture to guess that the EU has no problem holding elections to sit in Strasbourg because those individuals don't actually have the ability to change anything.

So again, not really a democracy.  The actual leaders aren't elected by the people.

The mystery deepens because the bureaucracy is so complex that it's actually difficult to determine who the "leader(s)" actually are...
