Brussels BACKS DOWN on demand for £50 billion divorce settlement from Britain

EU negotiator Michel Barnier said to have dropped demand on sequence of talksWas previously insisting divorce bill had to be settled before trade negotiationsTwo sides now expected to agree 'broad principles' and finalise later in process

Brussels has backed down on threats to force Britain to agree a huge £50billion divorce settlement before trade talks can start.

The EU's chief negotiator Michel Barnier is said to have made clear to Brexit Secretary David Davis that figures for the bill will not have to be finalised before negotiations get going on a deal.

Instead, the two sides will be able to mark out 'broad principles' before deciding the exact sums later in the process.

So, Brussels has started to learn that the new Iron Lady really does have some iron in her.

If the politicians treat people this poorly when they're armed to the teeth,

just imagine what they'll be willing to do once they've disarmed everyone.
