"Donald Trump to spend more on travel in one year than Obama spent in eight" (without leaving US...)

President Trump is on course to spend more on travel during his first year in office than his predecessor did during eight years, even though he has yet to leave the United States.

Frequent trips to his golf estate in Florida, where Mr Trump has spent about a quarter of his first 82 days as president, have cost taxpayers an estimated $21 million (£16.8 million).

At that rate, by January he will have spent more than the $97 million President Obama spent on personal and work travel during his two terms in office. Mr Trump has used his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach to host foreign leaders, and to play golf, on six weekends since he became president.

  • I'm not saying that they're the same, but didn't George Washington do the same?  When he was asked to lead the revolutionary army, he didn't want to be paid but he did want his expenses covered.  His expenses turned out to be far greater than any paycheck.

If the politicians treat people this poorly when they're armed to the teeth,

just imagine what they'll be willing to do once they've disarmed everyone.

That's perhaps true, but then fair is fair - people need to start apologizing to Mr Obama in that case.

Maybe there should be a limit on the amount of money people can spend so that leaders aren't jetsetting around on the ordinary people's dime. It's even more ridiculous considering how much money Mr Trump has (that Mr Obama never had while in office), but he's still making ordinary people pay for what it already well within his budget to fly about on his own.
