Officials have instead promised new wording that makes reference to the EU’s standard infringement procedures.
Last week, legal documents relating to the transition period circulated in Brussels, with sources close to the negotiations revealing terms which would have left Britain facing draconian sanctions if Theresa May dared go outside the transition guidelines.
The EU proposed “suspending certain benefits” of EU membership from the UK during the transition period, including voting and veto rights.
The footnote warned the UK would be subject to sanctions if the rules and regulations were not respected.
