Police ask for help identifying mute girl found in Birmingham

The youngster, who cannot speak, is being cared for in hospital.

Police in Birmingham have asked the public for help in identifying a mute girl found wandering the streets six days ago.

The girl, believed to be aged about 14 was found in a distressed state on Birmingham's New Street on the evening of 14 February.

She was carrying a pink blanket and a toy dog.

Officers say she has been unable to communicate verbally and remains in hospital for observation.

Inspector Ben Woodall, from West Midlands Police, said: "We really need to know who this young lady is so we can make contact with her relatives or guardians."

The youngster, who is around 5ft tall, was wearing a burgundy long-sleeved top, black leggings and blue slip on pumps with white polka dots.

Anyone who knows the identity of the youngster is being asked to call 101, quoting log 622 of 19 February.
