Is Mars the Escape Hatch for the 1 Percent?

The world sucks right now. Terrorism. Climate change. Political acrimony. Nonstop Justin Bieber songs.

It’s nice to know Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos have a plan. They will help the richest people in the world go to Mars and start over, leaving the other 99 percent to suffer on a dying, warring planet. The only solace for those of us left here will be that the Biebs should be prosperous enough to go with them.

This is the unspoken flip side of Musk’s SpaceX and Bezos’s Blue Origin. The space travel companies say they are creating a way for the human species to endure by populating other planets. But the bottom line is that only the wealthy will have the means to move to Mars. Musk’s target ticket price is $500,000 a person in 2015 dollars, and that’s just to get there. Imagine the new outfits you’ll have to buy to go with that space helmet.

Three thoughts:

1. I’m not so sure the world “sucks”; it just so happens to be in the hands of a tiny group of people who are doing their best to make it suck for us. I think with a few minor changes the world could actually be a really awesome place for everyone.

2. There has been a lot of interesting information of late, including photography, suggesting that Mars was once inhabited. I almost wonder if this is what happened there – a group of people fleeing some dire circumstances, possibly of their own creation.

3. Take a look at the photo above, which came with this article. If it’s that easy to make it look like an astronaut is on the Martian landscape, should we immediately believe everything NASA and the media publishes?

1. If the 1% all go to Mars the rest of us might be able to create a better world here.

2. Maybe they originally fled from Mars to earth, now the 1% are just going back again.

3. Lips moving, lies for sure.

“Haha! We screwed up the Earth for the rest of you, so have fun cleaning up the mess!”

*They fly to Mars*

“Hey, which cargo hold has the menial workers?”

“What do you mean?”

“Well, where are the people who are going to build our luxurious space palaces, grow our food and give us manicures?”

“I think…. I think we have to do all of that by ourselves.”

By the time the 1 percent figure out how to create a liveable atomosphere, dwellings, hospitals, supermarkets, agricultural sources roads and schools on Mars not to mention a way to earn a living they’ll all be doddering around on deluxe walking frames in nursing homes right here on earth.

Mars may be a red (no pun intended) herring. They probably all plan to move to Australia and live the good life.

I wouldn’t be surprised if most of what we see of “Mars” is filmed somewhere in Australia.
